Lost Wax Weekend
Join us for a hands-on Lost Wax Jewelry Weekend with centrifugal casting — two days of fire, flash, and finished bling right outside the French Quarter!
What to expect
Saturday: Design, carve, and invest
Learn the basics of lost wax: model making from wax, spruing, and preparing your piece for casting.
Carve your own custom wax pendant, ring, or charm with one-on-one guidance from Chris and Jan.
Prepare and pack the flask with investment so your design is ready for Sunday’s burnout and pour.
Sunday: Burnout, cast, and finish
Watch the burnout cycle and see how the wax becomes a clean cavity ready for metal.
Experience centrifugal casting in action as molten metal fills your mold.
Break out your casting, file, throw on the wheel, and learn polishing techniques to reveal the shine.
Walk away with a finished, wearable piece you made yourself.
Who should come
Beginners through intermediate makers welcome. No prior experience required.
Perfect for creatives, souvenir hunters, date days, or small groups looking for a memorable New Orleans weekend activity.
Logistics
Dates: Saturday + Sunday (weekend schedule)
Time: Sessions split between Saturday (morning–late afternoon) and Sunday (morning–afternoon)
Location: JAY Jewelry in Arabi, just outside the French Quarter
Materials: Metals provided (options available); bring personal ideas or pick from our designs
Class size: Small groups—plenty of hands-on attention from our lapidary artists and founders, Chris Picou and Jan Burrows
Safety: Full PPE and safety briefing included. We handle the hot stuff so you can focus on the fun.
Why it’s special
Centrifugal casting is dramatic and quick — you’ll see molten metal fly into life.
Learn authentic bench techniques from two jovial jewelers with 15 years of partnership and New Orleans flair.
Take home not just jewelry, but a story: your creation, made by you, with a little heat, a lot of skill, and a dash of the Quarter’s charm.
Reserve your spot
Spaces are limited to keep instruction personal. Contact JAY Jewelry to reserve your place and choose your metal options.
Come make something brilliant — from wax to wonder — with Chris and Jan this weekend.
